Marvel Beats DC Hands Down!

Superman and Batman are great superheroes, especially Batman, but DC Comics just can't compete with the creative genius of Marvel.  Spiderman was my all time hero when I was a kid.  I still have the bronze medallian my dad bought me when I went to get my picture on Spiderman's lap.  X-Men, Thor, Fantastic 4, Hulk, Ironman, how do you compete.  With Aquaman?  I don't think so...

I haven't see "The Avengers" yet, but soon...

  1. The only DC hero I really liked was Flash. Other than that, Iron Man and Cap take the day. Every day.

    Let's not forget X Men.

    Superman just plain f'in sucks.

    1. Batman's pretty cool. And Wonder Woman is ok. But for every decent DC hero, Marvel has five.

  2. Marvel does its superheros a lot of justice through very good characterization. It isn't just the powers with the hero remaining fairly personally aloof. The heroes are very human, emotionally available, and that allows the reader/viewer to identify with the person.

Most notably from the XMen movies was Rogue, who was willing to give up her powers just so she could have normal contact with other humans. And Archangel, plucking his wings for fear of what his dad will think...

They don't just accept their powers and become some bland crimefighter. The turmoil of their humanity struggling with their powers comes out.

I also think DC does too much to make their heroes invulnerable. In doing so they dehumanize them in a big way.

  3. I agree with DC dehumanizing their characters. I would also give Marvel the best villains.

The DC villain Lex Luther is stated to be so smart he only considers Brainiac a super android to be his intellectual equal hes also a billionaire, crime lord.

He hates superman because he was embarrassed when he was nearly arrested for something that was his own fault and it embarrassed him in public. He also despises that superman was born with powers and he wasn't. That seems like a very underdeveloped character and pitiful reason for him to swear a vendetta on someone.

The Marvel villain is Dr.Doom a super genius with technology matching Iron Mans and magic skills as strong as Dr. Strange. Since before he was a teenager he taught himself magic to fight for his mothers soul against the devil once a year and wage a one man war against his home home country's monarch.

I will admit I am biased and lean towards the Marvel side but when you put these characters side by side Luther doesn't seem as well developed to me.
