Why do so many people hand their toilet paper wrong?
The correct way is under, like in the above picture.
With the TP hung under, you can stabilize the roll with one hand and tear. Hanging it over often causes the paper to fail to tear, giving you much more than you wanted.
Also, if you have a cat, hanging the TP over gives him a great toy that often results in a pile of unrolled TP on the floor. Usually with cat claw and bite marks in it.
How does over make sense? Really...
I heard on some talk show one time that the under version causes you to grab one to two extra squares than you would otherwise use. For the fiscally responsible people, over is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI hang my roll over because:
ReplyDelete1. My cat is domesticated and does not attack the roll.
2. When I was growing up there was wallpaper in the bathroom. The seam of the wallpaper was in the center of the toilet paper roll. So every time you reached for the toilet paper (if under) the seam of the wall paper would get chipped away and tear.
As someone who puts other people's toilet paper into the "over" position, I cannot see how anyone can prefer under to over. Putting the toilet paper in the under position is putting it on backwards. One has to exert twice as much effort to reach the paper that is wedged between the roll and the wall. Putting it on under also forces one to use two-hands or take too much toilet paper--which is unforgivable. In regards to the cat toy comment, I see it like baby safety locks on cabinets. Yes, they can keep children (and pets for that matter) from getting into trouble, but they also make everyone else have to exert a lot of extra time and trouble--especially if there are no children or cats in the house.
ReplyDeleteAs one who has spent much too much time thinking about this topic, please do things the most convenient way. Put your toilet paper on in the "right" way...over. :)
@Snapshots: No. Under only requires 1 hand. Brace the blade of your hand against the roll and tug the strip. Comes away without a fuss.
ReplyDeletePulling on it when hung improperly, you can't brace the roll and pull in this manner, so you can easily end up taking too much.
Under for the win.
